The Dream of A King, Dresden's Green Vault

The Museum of Islamic Art opens the world renowned “The Dream of a King – Dresden’s Green Vault” exhibition from 2 November, 2011 -26 January, 2012 in the temporary gallery on the ground floor. The temporary exhibition from Dresden, Germany is visiting Doha as an outcome of the memorandum of understanding signed between Qatar Museums Authority and Dresden State Art Collections last year. Famous for being one the richest exhibitions in Europe, “The Dream of a King – Dresden’s Green Vault” –also known as Grünes Gewölbe, the exhibition has attracted millions of visitors who got the opportunity to admire the precious treasures on display. It showcases around 3000 masterpieces including: jewellery, objects made of amber and ivory, gemstone vessels and bronze statuettes. The exhibition features a selection of outstanding examples of Saxon treasury art dating from the 16th to the 18th century. These are surrounded by needle-sharp reproductions of the walls of the Historic Grünes Gewölbe, giving visitors an authentic impression of the original arrangement of the works of art.

The exhibition was incredible with a set up of photos and decoration in addition to the actual art pieces.  It was quite a unique method of display and unfortunately we weren't allowed to take photos!

A few weeks later I had the opportunity to attend the accompanying lecture by Dr. Claudia Brink who explained the exhibition and the art of giving of these beautiful treasures for political peace.

After the lecture there were many little snacks including these amazing sweets.  Yum!

Zubara Fort Restoration

Apparently Zubara Fort is under restoration until April 2012.  The whole inside was inaccessible but the outside still looked good and was fine for touristy photos.

Qatar ExxonMobile Open

Homemade Iranian Lunch

N made some of her favorite dishes including Khoresht-e Havij (carrot stew) and Khoresht Aloo va Haveej (carrot chicken).  The carrot flavor and crunch was completely cooked out and covered with saffron and other flavors so I didn't mind the carrots at all and this was actually incredibly delicious!!!

saffron rice, eggplant yogurt stuff, carrot chicken, and potato slice
She lined the rice pan with potato and carrot slices so the rice wouldn't stick.  These slices were also yummy!
