Barzan Tower

We went searching for Umm Salal Mohammed Fort, but ended up at Barzan Tower. It was cool though and fun to climb to the top of each tower.

Barzan Tower is an Arabic version of a castle constructed in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Meaning ‘high place’, Barzan Tower is a uniquely Gulf construction: a triple-decker T-shaped building originally used to watch the sea and pearl divers, as well as look out for incoming ships and observe the phases of the moon.

Qatar Adventures Desert Safari

We booked the day long desert safari with Qatar Adventures. I also hear that Black Pearl is good. Anyway, the driver was actually 30 minutes early to pick us up! He didn't have a Landcruiser, but it was similar. We drove down to Sealine to deflate the tires and then joined another car to go tumbling over the dunes. The first vertical drop was so scary but then it became fun. It's incredible what the cars are able to do with sand. After a few hours of dunning and a few scenic spots for photos, he took us to a little camp on the beach, very touristy. There was a barbecue with chicken, lamb, salad, and rice, pretty good. Overall, it was fun and good for the price of 300 QR per person.

More Adventures in Qatar

Just a short adventure for today.  We drove north to Simaisma, a little old fishing town with some old buildings.

After, we continued north to Al Khor, the second biggest city in Qatar.

We got some chicken shwarmma and ate on the Al Khor corniche.  There were some men playing cricket on the beach.

Chocolate Mochi at Oishi Sushi

One of my favorite spots in Doha is Monday & Tuesday nights at Oishi Sushi with their all-you-can-eat kaitenzushi (sushi going around on plates on a conveyor belt).  I can eat all the salmon nigiri I want!  Also, this was exciting, one night there was some chocolate mochi!  It had gooey, pudding like chocolate inside.  Actually really good!
